Spirits are supernatural beings, typically the remnants of deceased individuals.

Description[]

The true variety of spirits in the MAGIQverse is unknown, but they have primarily been borne from human beings - either the passed on spirit of a human or the remnants of human emotions. In some cases, a spirit can be capable of possession, as with Woolie or become weaponized, such as the Storm. Souls do seem to exist and are capable of being contained, though the extent of a person that remains after death is unclear.

Known Entities[]

History[]

The Storm was the first spiritual entity encountered by The Mountaineers, being described as a "storm of souls" in Deirdre Green's blog post "Neither Her Nor There." One such soul within the Storm was that of Nate Fallon, known as Wanderer, who gave the Storm the ability to displace people in time. Remnants of Nate remained in the Storm, allowing the Mountaineers to ultimately defeat it by reading to him[1].

The next series of ghosts that the Mountaineers encountered was in PRSFNE, during Ghosts of Neithernor. While exploring the abandoned land of Neithernor, Mountaineers began to witness strange incorporeal beings acting out various tasks, such as building tables, shooting arrows, and making potions. The spirits could not be interacted with, but were able to be put to rest by having the Mountaineers repeat the actions of their predecessors.

Woolie was the most prominent spirit encountered, attaching himself to Saberlane during the Ackerly Green Secret Society. Woolie found himself attracted to the old Ackerly Green offices and unwittingly possessed Saberlane. Although Woolie meant no harm and only sought to be put to rest, the strain of having two minds in his head lead Saberlane to break down. Through a grounding hex[2], the pair were able to be safely separated, and Saberlane was able to set Woolie to rest by knocking into a special location in Neithernor[3].

During the Secret Society, Mountaineers who used the The Living Spirit encountered malevolent entities during their out of body experiences. Those who cast the spell said they felt like they were being watched by beings who had attempted the spell but failed to get back to their bodies[4]. The unanchored spirits remained in the astral plane, hateful and jealous of those who still had bodies.
